Summary:

The Sr. Data Engineer will function as a primary data engineering resource on a squad aligned to a business domain and will be a key contributor in helping the squad deliver Data Products that create value for our business stakeholders. This role will help the squad scale in their data engineering capacity through mentorship and guidance of other data engineering resources. The Sr. Data Engineer will also be a key member of the data engineering team to help develop mature data engineering practices for the entire Enterprise.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business and IT teams to deliver complex technology projects and integrations
  • Supports new data warehouse development, ensuring consistency and integration with existing business processes and data governance
  • Translates business requirements into technical architecture vision and implementation plan
  • Leads design reviews of data warehouse deliverables such as data models, ETL/ELT processes and data quality assessments, and any modified Master Data Management processes
  • Assists in the design and build of conceptual, logical, and physical dimensional data models. Serves as the subject matter expert on star schema, snowflake schemas, and normalized and de-normalized data models
  • Ensures consistent adherence to data warehouse architecture standards through governance
  • Analyzes data warehouse performance statistics and recommend improvements Reviews, evaluates, and recommends supplemental data warehouse technologies and tools if needed
  • Works with peers in business and IT to define scope, project timeline, deliverables, and priorities of data warehouse deliverables
  • Assess all risks and mitigation strategies, communicate impacts on data warehouse environment
  • Work with analysts to open, track and resolve issues with vendors.
  • Adhere to IT policies for reporting and managing trouble tickets and change control
  • Adhere to departmental security standards and best practices to ensure appropriate end-user data access control levels
  • Communicate complex and technical information in a concise and articulate manner
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to other members of the team
  • Superior analytical, investigation and problem-solving abilities

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in IT, 5+ years developing ETL/ELT processes
  • Extensive data warehouse platform implementation, data architecture best practices, and support and governance experience
  • Extensive data management experience (5+ years) driving and managing data platforms (Database Administration, data warehouse, data modeling, tuning, optimization, and data virtualization)
  • Experience and understanding of integrating disparate datasets into a centralized platform and a combined view of common data points
  • Track record of success in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, CS or related discipline or equivalent number of years of work experience
  • Fluent in advanced SQL scripting and/or development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and managing an MPP Data Platform such as Snowflake, Databricks, Synapse, etc
  • Experience leveraging Big Data concepts (Hadoop, Spark, Impala…) and cloud technologies (Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery…) for scaling and advanced data analytics
  • Experience working in Agile and/or DevOps teams (Scrum)
  • Exceptional teaming skills encompassing cross-functional teams, peer relationships, informing, understanding and appreciating differences
  • Experience in a GxP / SOX regulated, quality function in a biopharmaceutical company or Clinical Research Organization (CRO) preferred

The hiring pay range for this position is $127,000 to $164,000 per year based on skills, education and experience relevant to the role. Other components of total compensation include a competitive equity grant at the time of hire (with additional annual grants, and grants upon promotion when applicable), and an annual bonus.
