Seagen

Summer Intern – Potency Assays, Mechanistic Cell-Death Characterization

Internships - Bothell, Washington

Description

Seagen is a global multi-product biotechnology company that develops and commercializes innovative therapies for the treatment of cancer. The company’s industry-leading antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) technology harnesses the targeting ability of antibodies to deliver cell-killing agents directly to cancer cells. In addition to four marketed products, we are advancing a strong product pipeline of novel therapies for solid tumors and blood related cancers designed to address significant unmet medical needs and improve treatment outcomes for patients. More information about Seagen can be found at www.seagen.com.

Summary:

Cytotoxicity assays are used to ensure that the antibody drug conjugate (ADC) retains consistent activity throughout the program’s lifecycle. These results are monitored over time and across batches manufactured to ensure stability. However, many cytotoxicity assays used for Potency Assay testing evaluate overall cell death but don’t evaluate specific mechanisms of cell death.

This project will focus on establishing methods for evaluating the induced mechanism of cell death from ADC payload delivery. This will include performing plate-based assays to develop and troubleshoot methods for evaluating these mechanisms. Assay performance for accuracy and precision will be evaluated. After the establishment of these methods, they will be used to screen ADCs from the Seagen’s pipeline and evaluate the relative impact of these mechanism across drug programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop assays to evaluate mechanisms of target cell death
  • Characterize and compare relative contribution across multiple programs
  • Interpret data and recognizes errors or unusual results when they occur
  • Records accurate, clear, and complete experimental data and methods
  • Summarizes experimental results and presents to lab group
  • Contributes to lab upkeep and equipment maintenance

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in or recent graduate with BS degree in the biological sciences or other related program
  • Accurate and good pipetting ability and knowledge of different types of pipetting techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail, quality and compliance following assay procedures, data reporting and execution of experiments
  • Capable of multi-tasking effectively
  • Experience and/or knowledge of mammalian cell culture, cell-based assays and plate-based assays is desirable

Note: This is an onsite, paid internship. This position is open to all students legally authorized to work in the United States. We are not able to offer visa sponsorship for internships. While housing is not provided by Seagen, we make every effort to connect fellow interns to arrange for joint housing and ride sharing.
